The star defender of Pori Ässät, Rami Määttä, was selected for the national team for the EHT tournament in Finland to be held at the beginning of November. The national team call-up was Määttä’s first in his career.

According to Satakunnan Kansa, the call-up to the Lions meant a payday for Määttä. His two-year contract included a clause that increases his salary for the next season if he is selected for the Lions this season.

Määttä has made a rocket-like rise to the elite of the league’s defenders. The player selected as the best in the league in September, a product of Kärpät, has recorded 2+6=8 this season.

Määttä is the top name in the league’s plus-minus statistics with a score of +16. He is also the ice time king of the league-leading Ässät.
