Shocking news about the death of NHL legend Claude Lemieux
The hockey world was shaken on Thursday evening by the sad news that NHL legend Claude Lemieux, 60, had passed away.
Now more shocking details about the case have emerged. According to TMZ, Lemieux’s cause of death was suicide. The report states that the former NHL star was found dead by his adult son.
Lemieux played in the NHL for six different teams during his remarkable career from 1983 to 2009. He won four Stanley Cup championships and was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy as the most valuable player in the playoffs in 1995.
The Canadian is particularly remembered for his time with the Montreal Canadiens, New Jersey Devils, and Colorado Avalanche.
The tragic news is made even more shocking by the fact that Lemieux was seen in public just a few days earlier. The NHL legend carried the torch during the opening ceremony of the conference final between the Montreal Canadiens and the Carolina Hurricanes in Montreal.
During his NHL career, Lemieux played 1215 regular season games, scoring 379 goals and 407 assists for a total of 786 points. In the playoffs, he was one of the toughest clutch players of his time, scoring 158 points in 234 games.
