Sami Kapanen stern after Pelicans’ dive: “When the jersey is put on…”
The Pelicans suffered a harsh 0-6 defeat to KooKoo on Wednesday in front of their home crowd. The team, which had just changed its assistant coaches, did not seem to have made any progress during the week-long break in the league based on Wednesday’s match.
In the post-match press conference, Pelicans head coach Sami Kapanen delivered a blunt analysis of his team’s performance.
– The opponent set a pace, a physical challenge, and a speed of play that we had no answer for today. It doesn’t matter how you practice and how the practice feels and that the team looks energetic and ready, but when you put on the game jersey, you can only expect to be ready to play, and we were not ready to play today, Kapanen assessed.
Kapanen also mentioned that the Pelicans got into the game during the last ten minutes when KooKoo took its foot off the gas with a six-goal lead. However, that period did not affect the overall picture.
– This was a really, really dark night today.
The Pelicans are currently third from the bottom in the league. Only Vaasan Sport and HIFK are behind the Pussinokka team.
