SaiPalle big loss: Raimo Helmisen trusted man is leaving!
SaiPa’s assistant coach for the fifth season, Santeri Immonen, will leave the club after the season. He is moving to the French top league as the head coach of Chamonix.
Chamonix had a difficult regular season in the French league this past season and finished second to last. However, the team managed to retain its league position in the relegation playoffs.
The club changed head coaches in February when Anatoli Bogdanov was fired. He was replaced by assistant coach Mikko Kuukka, who ultimately did not want to continue in the role next season.
Chamonix ended up looking for a new head coach from abroad, and the choice fell on Immonen due to his experience.
– He immediately showed great interest in joining our organization. He wanted to return to the head coach position, Chamonix’s sports director Christophe Ville says in the club’s statement.
Immonen has been an important part of the SaiPa team for five years. The Lappeenranta club, led by Raimo Helminen, is currently fighting in the Liiga semifinals against KooKoo. The Kouvola team leads the series 2–0, and the third match will be played on Tuesday.
