SaiPa starts the season with a small budget – club boss to IL: “No secret science”
Despite the huge success, the sensation team of last season, SaiPa, has kept its feet firmly on the ground at the office. The club is entering the new season with one of the smallest player budgets in the league.
Under the leadership of Raimo Helminen, the Lappeenranta team that reached the finals in the spring will operate with the same budget as last season, according to club manager Harri Aho.
– This is not rocket science. We had two million to spend on players last season, and we have two million this year, sports director Aho reveals to Iltalehti.
– We are still among the three smallest in the league in terms of player budget, Aho clarifies.
After experiencing significant player losses last season, SaiPa’s most notable acquisitions are Miikka Salomäki, who has also played in the NHL, and former league power defender Teemu Kivihalme.
