Sad news from the NHL: Superstar undergoes knee surgery – facing a long absence from the game
NHL received unfortunate injury news on Friday
Media giant Sportnet reported that Winnipeg Jets’ star goalie Connor Hellebuyck will undergo knee surgery. The estimated length of the sick leave is 4-6 weeks.
Hellebuyck, who has been named the NHL’s best goalie twice in a row, led the Jets to the NHL regular season victory last season. He was awarded the Vezina Trophy as well as the Hart Trophy for the most valuable player at the end of the season.
This season has also started impressively for Hellebuyck, as his stats show 2.51 and 91.3% after 14 games. The Jets are currently third in their conference.
In Hellebuyck’s absence, the main responsibility in the Jets’ goal will fall to backup goalie Eric Comrie, who has played five games for the Jets this season with stats of 2.60 and 90.8%. Comrie’s backup has been the just 22-year-old Thomas Milic, who has yet to play a single game in the NHL.
