Detroit Red Wings captain and top center Dylan Larkin submitted a trade request earlier this summer. According to sources, Larkin is willing to move to three teams, which are the Florida Panthers, Minnesota Wild, and Vegas Golden Knights.

NHL reporter Elliotte Friedman explained in his 32 Thoughts podcast why the relationship between Larkin and Detroit has soured so badly.

According to Friedman, the first signs of a rift appeared back in 2023. At that time, Larkin had very tough negotiations regarding his contract extension, and his linemate Tyler Bertuzzi was traded away. However, things were still managed to be settled.

The next signs of the rift were seen in the summer of 2024. At that time, Detroit allowed David Perron and Shayne Gostisbehere to change scenery, even though both players had been important to the team. This understandably rubbed Larkin the wrong way, as he has only made the playoffs once in his impressive career, during his rookie season in Detroit.

According to Friedman, captain Larkin and GM Steve Yzerman haven’t spoken to each other in a while.
