Raimo Helminen and the star player in the shower – SaiPa suffered a crushing defeat in the league top match
SaiPa faced a tough challenge on Friday night in the top match of the Liiga in Tampere.
The league’s biggest championship favorite, Tappara, dominated the Lappeenranta team in a heated match with a score of 6-1. The stars of the match were Tappara’s superstar Joachim Blichfeld, who made a return to the lineup with 2+2 points, and the points leader Benjamin Rautiainen with 1+3.
SaiPa’s Raimo Helminen received a penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct at the end of the third period after the head coach expressed his anger towards the officiating. Shortly after, SaiPa’s golden helmet Maxime Fortier received the same penalty.
With this victory, Tappara extended the point gap to ten points over second-placed SaiPa. The Tampere team has played one game less than the Lappeenranta team.
