Poor news for the Lions from the NHL – Florida star injured
The Florida Panthers’ injury concerns in the NHL continue – and now another important name has fallen to the injured list.
Finnish defenseman Niko Mikkola had to sit out due to a lower body injury during the game on Saturday night.
Panthers head coach Paul Maurice stated after the game that Mikkola’s situation requires further examination and there is no timetable for his return yet.
– Niko will go for tests when we return home. He gives his all for our team every night and fights really hard. He has stayed healthy incredibly well up to this point, and we have needed that.
– Niko has been an important player for us all season, especially with so many injuries. He has played wonderfully, and we will miss him. I think he will be out for a while, Maurice noted after the 4–1 victory against the Calgary Flames.
Mikkola’s injury is a big blow for Florida, which has suffered from numerous absences throughout the season.
At the same time, the news is also bad for the Finnish national team. With the Panthers’ season ending in the regular season, the 29-year-old defensive giant would be a significant reinforcement for the Lions in the upcoming World Championships.
Mikkola has played 67 games in the current NHL season, with a scoring record of 3+8=11.
