TPS announced on Thursday the departure of forward Leevi Teissala.

The skillful forward who joined TPS for the 2023-24 season played 104 regular-season games for the Turku team, with stats of 17+29=46.

Teissala, 25, commented on his departure on the club’s website.

– It didn’t quite end the way I originally thought, but at this point, it felt like the best solution to look for something else. My role here was no longer one that served both parties.

– This ends now like this, but I am grateful that I got to wear the jersey of my youth club with pride for two and a half years – it has been a big thing for me. You never know, the paths might cross again when I’m older.

TPS’s sports director Mika Suoraniemi admits on TPS’s website that the initiative to terminate the contract came from the player.

– At the player’s initiative, we had open and honest discussions about his situation and future, and we mutually agreed to terminate the contract. Recently, the game has not gone as hoped, and he felt he needed a change and a new environment for the next phase of his career.

– This decision was the best for everyone, and now as a team, we need to tighten our ranks and focus together on moving forward, Suoraniemi states.

Expressen reported earlier on Thursday that Teissala will be moving to Södertälje SK, which plays in Sweden’s second-highest league, HockeyAllsvenskan.
