Three-time Stanley Cup champion Marc-André Fleury, 40, may make a surprising return to NHL ice.

ESPN reporter Greg Wyshynski reports on X that Fleury is ready to briefly suspend his retirement if a suitable team can be found in the NHL. One possible option mentioned is the Edmonton Oilers, who are looking for a goaltender.

– The Edmonton Oilers are clearly a team to watch, especially after the Jarry trade. Jarry was previously Fleury’s teammate in Pittsburgh, Wyshynski notes.

Earlier today, TSN insider reporter Pierre LeBrun reported on X that several NHL teams have reached out to the retired Canadian goaltender.

– This is hardly surprising, but I’ve heard that some teams have inquired with Marc-André Fleury about whether he has any interest in returning to play. It’s also not a surprise that teams suffering from goaltending shortages are exploring all possible options, LeBrun wrote.

Fleury played a total of 1,052 regular season games and 170 playoff games during his NHL career. He represented the Pittsburgh Penguins, Vegas Golden Knights, Chicago Blackhawks, and Minnesota Wild throughout his career.

Fleury officially ended his career at the end of September while wearing the Penguins’ jersey. He was last seen on the ice in a preseason game against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
