Now it has hit – a surprise position for Raimo Helminen!
SaiPa’s head coach Raimo Helminen will take on a completely new role next summer. He will serve as the head coach of the Finnish team in the 3-on-3 tournament taking place in Belfast in July. This is revealed in the tournament’s announcement.
This is the 3ICE World Cup, which is being held for the first time in a national team format. The series has previously been played in the United States during the summer, and it is backed by former NHL player E.J. Johnston.
Eight countries will participate in the tournament. In addition to Finland, there will also be Canada, the United States, and Sweden. The Swedish team is coached by Johnny Oduya and Canada by Larry Murphy.
The game format differs from traditional ice hockey. Matches are played three against three, and they consist of two eight-minute periods without stoppages.
Helminen’s coached SaiPa is currently playing in the SM-liiga semifinals. The team is trailing KooKoo in the series with a score of 1–2.
