Now came surprising news: A familiar Finnish player from the league has retired at the age of 25.
Leevi Aaltosen hockey career has come to an end.
The 25-year-old forward played in the Liiga for KalPa and KooKoo, as well as in Sweden’s HockeyAllsvenskan for BIK Karlskoga. Last season, Aaltonen did not have a team, and now his status on Eliteprospects is marked as retired.
Aaltonen’s career took off at a young age. In the spring of 2018, Aaltonen achieved two significant championships. He was part of KalPa’s U20 team that celebrated the Finnish championship, and later that spring, he won the under-18 world championship with Finland.
His promising performances were also noticed in the NHL. The New York Rangers drafted Aaltonen in the fifth round in the summer of 2019.
In the Liiga, he played for KalPa from 2018 to 2021. After that, he moved to KooKoo, where Aaltonen spent three seasons.
Aaltonen played a total of 204 regular season games in the Liiga over six seasons. In those games, he recorded 15+26=41 points.
The last team of his career was BIK Karlskoga. In the 2024–25 season, he played in the Swedish team in HockeyAllsvenskan.
