Goalkeeper Niclas Westerholm, 28, who represented Kärpät last season, continues his career in Sweden.

According to Expressen, the large-sized goalkeeper, who has played on short-term contracts at two different clubs in the Czech Extraliga at the beginning of the season, is moving to Södertalje, which plays in the HockeyAllsvenskan. Westerholm’s short-term contract with HC Motor České Budějovice expires at the end of November.

In Södertalje, Westerholm will cover for the first-choice goalkeeper Love Härenstam, who is leaving for the under-20 World Championship training camp, according to Expressen.

Westerholm played 18 games in goal for Kärpät last season (2.84 and 88.1%). The goalkeeper has also represented SaiPa at the Liiga level, in addition to Kärpät. According to Expressen, Swedish clubs, including Djurgården, were also interested in the Finnish goalkeeper.
