NHL is left behind – Lassi Thomson found a new team!
Finnish defender Lassi Thomson, 25, leaves the Ottawa Senators organization behind and heads to Switzerland. He has signed a two-year contract with NL team HC Lugano.
Thomson played 11 regular season games in the NHL this season, recording 0+3 points and one playoff game. He spent most of the season in the AHL with the Belleville Senators, tallying 25 points in 55 games with 14+11.
Thomson is the Senators’ first-round 19th overall pick from 2019. He initially played for the team from 2020-24 and returned there for the current season. Overall, Thomson has played 29 NHL games with 0+8 points.
In the 2024-25 season, Thomson played in Sweden’s SHL representing the Malmö Redhawks. He had a strong season, scoring 29 points in 50 games with 17+12.
– Lassi is a defender with excellent offensive skills who has played at a high level in recent years. In the 2024/25 season, he was among the best in his position in Sweden. He is very creative, skates well, and has an excellent shot. He will help us on the power play and five-on-five. He has natural leadership and his best years are still ahead of him, commented Lugano’s GM Janick Steinmann in the club’s statement.
