According to the sports director of Kärpät, Kimmo Kapanen, the Oulu club is now ready for the upcoming Liiga season.

Kapanen says in an interview with MTV Sports that defender Ville Pokka, who played for Kärpät last season, will not continue with the club. The contract of the Oulu-born Pokka ended last season.

According to Kapanen, Pokka is currently training during NHL players’ ice slots in Oulu. The defender, who has played in Russia, Switzerland, and Sweden in recent years, joined Kärpät last December.

Homegrown talent is not in sight

According to Kapanen, the homegrown talent Julius Junttila, who is also available on the open market, is not on Kärpät’s radar at the moment.

– It is not in our plans. There has been no contact from either side, Kapanen commented on Junttila’s situation.

The 33-year-old Junttila played last season in the Czech top league for BK Mlada Boleslav. The forward scored 28 points in 49 games with 10 goals and 18 assists.

Junttila has played over 500 games in the Liiga wearing Kärpät’s jersey.
