MTV: New information about Rikard Grönborg’s situation
In August, rumors emerged that Tappara’s head coach Rikard Grönborg would be a candidate for a top position in Sweden.
The Swedish site Hockeynews reported in August that Luleå HF would try to hire Grönborg as their head coach for the 2026-27 season. The current head coach Thomas Berglund will finish his term at the end of this season.
However, Grönborg now denies in an interview with MTV Sports any negotiations with clubs other than Tappara. He states that he is satisfied with his situation at Tappara and will look at other job opportunities only after his current contract ends. Grönborg’s contract expires at the end of this season.
– I do not comment on rumors because I do not know where they come from, Grönborg told MTV.
There have been significant changes in the office side of Tappara over the summer. The club appointed Lasse Aho as chairman, Ari Penttilä as the new CEO, and Janne Vuorinen as manager.
– This is about bigger issues than just me. Let’s see if our visions align with the changes they made, Grönborg says.
Grönborg has coached Tappara for two seasons. He led the team to the Finnish championship in his first season, while last season the team was eliminated in the quarter-finals.
In his coaching career, Grönborg has won two world championships as the head coach of Tre Kronor. Before moving to Tappara, he coached the Swiss team ZSC Lions.
