The varying practices of Liiga clubs in communicating injuries puzzle MTV Sports expert Karri Kivi.

Liiga clubs report their players’ absences in very different ways. For example, HIFK announces the estimated return dates of injured players with each match preview, while Ässät publishes their injury situation once a week.

On the other hand, Ilves follows a sparse communication line, having reported little about their players’ injuries in recent years. Ilves’ situation has come to light again, as the team’s star forward Lukas Jasek was injured just over a week ago in an away match against Sport. The Czech forward has not played since.

Kivi wonders in the MTV Liigaviikko program why a uniform practice for injury reporting has not been established.

– I don’t understand why this can’t be standardized. On Mondays, it should be announced who is absent and for how long, that’s it, because I know as a coach it disrupts the team when there is constant chatter about “how long is he out and what does he have,” Kivi says.

The publication of injury information is restricted by players’ privacy concerns. However, Kivi believes that clubs could communicate absences more openly within the allowed limits.

– Other clubs clearly have room for improvement in this regard. Why don’t clubs want to do so (report the lengths of absences)? All disruptive factors would disappear, Kivi states.
