Mitch Marner has three potential destinations: wants to join an “Finnish team” in the NHL
The most prominent free agent of the NHL summer market, Mitch Marner, is reportedly heading to the Western Conference.
According to NHL reporter Pierre LeBrun, the superstar leaving the Toronto Maple Leafs has three favorite teams in mind, among which the decision regarding his future club will be made. These teams are the Los Angeles Kings, Vegas Golden Knights, and Dallas Stars.
Especially the latter, known as one of the “Finnish teams” in the NHL, would be, according to LeBrun, a “long shot but not impossible” as Marner’s new team. Stars are currently struggling with severe salary cap issues, which is why the team, at the moment, cannot offer contract extensions to players like Mikael Granlund.
On the other hand, rumors suggest that Marner is willing to wait until mid-July with his future team decision in the hope that teams will have the opportunity to make room under their salary cap for his upcoming mega-deal.
Several insider sources have hinted that Marner is open to a short-term, 2-4-year contract with an annual salary of 12-13 million dollars.
