Ässät has made a one-year extension with defender Miro Karjalainen.

Karjalainen, 29, joined Ässät mid-season 2024-25. Last season, he played 20 games for the club with stats of 1+2. Karjalainen’s season ended early in December due to injury.

– Miro Karjalainen was playing excellent hockey before his injury. He has a good sense of the game to advance play with his passing and to support attacks in a timely manner. Miro is also an important penalty killer and shot blocker, and I believe he will carry a big responsibility in next season’s team as well, Ässät’s sports director Jarno Kultanen commented in the club’s announcement.

Karjalainen says he has felt very comfortable in Ässät and Pori with his family.

– I have felt good here, and my family has felt good here, and the fans are crazy enough, so what’s not to like. It was an easy decision to continue when the club offered an extension. Let’s go fight for good placements with the team, and my goal is to play a full season and help the team, Karjalainen said.

The two-meter tall and 106-kilogram Karjalainen has previously represented Sport, HPK, and HIFK in the league. He is a Finnish champion with HPK from the spring of 2019.
