League club player trades – netting over 500 match Finnish champion
HPK has signed a contract with defender Samuli Piipponen that extends until November 1st. Piipponen joins HPK’s roster immediately and will be available for the team’s home games this weekend.
Piipponen, 33, has not played anywhere this season yet. He started last season with Sport, playing 36 games with stats of 2+5. For the remainder of the season, he was loaned to Ässät, where he played six regular season games with 0+1 points and seven playoff games with 0+1 points.
Piipponen has over 500 games in the Liiga. He celebrated the Finnish championship with Lukko in the spring of 2021. In addition to Lukko, Sport, and Ässät, Piipponen has represented Jukurit and SaiPa in the Liiga.
– It’s great to have Samuli join our defense. He brings a wealth of experience from the Liiga with various teams. Due to injuries and absences, we needed more depth in defense, says Jukka Voutilainen, responsible for player scouting at HPK, in the club’s statement.
