Kiekko-Espoo and Kärpät faced off in a Liiga match on Friday night. Kärpät ultimately took the away victory with a score of 2-1.

The match saw a controversial situation. Veteran Leo Komarov, who transferred to Kiekko-Espoo this week and played his second game with the team, received a game misconduct in the final period. He tackled Kärpät’s Aleksi Antti-Roiko from behind near the boards. Following the five-minute power play that ensued, Kärpät scored the winning goal of the match.

In the post-match press conference, Kiekko-Espoo’s head coach Jyrki Aho strongly addressed Komarov’s ejection situation. He looked directly into the camera and delivered his message to young athletes and hockey players. Aho emphasized the responsibility of the player being tackled.

– If you are near the boards, then put yourself against the boards with your side first. Then you won’t get hurt, everything will be just fine. But if you go in with your back first, someone can come and push you. Then you can get hurt, and it can be even worse. It’s worth learning to protect yourself. That was the message that should be given to all young hockey players, Aho stated.
