Leijonat forward returns to the League – TPS has signed him to their roster
TPS announced on Wednesday new player signings, the latest being a one-year contract with forward Joona Ikonen, 27, known from the Lions. Ikonen arrives in Turku from Malmö in the SHL.
Before his two seasons in the SHL, Ikonen played for Ilves, where he scored 20+27=47 points in 58 games during the 2023-24 season.
In total, Ikonen has played 340 regular season games in the Liiga with stats of 90+109=199.
– I’m feeling good about this new challenge. A big season is ahead. I may not have gotten everything I was looking for in Sweden, but the experience challenged me as a player. Now I’m looking to return to my own level and I want to be a leading player in the team next season, Ikonen commented on TPS’s website.
Ikonen represented the Lions last spring at the World Championships held in Stockholm.
TPS also announced earlier in the day the return of the fresh Polish league points leader Hannu Kuru to Turku.
