Lauri Marjamäki: new job!
The Swiss club EV Zug has appointed Lauri Marjamäki, 48, as their new head coach. He is moving from EHC Kloten and will start on May 1, 2026. The contract runs until spring 2028.
Marjamäki coached Kloten for two seasons and led the team to the playoffs in his first season. Previously, he served as the head coach of the Finnish national team (2016–2018) and has coached Kärpät and Jokereita, winning two Finnish championships.
– Marjamäki has worked with young players in many coaching positions and has played successful ice hockey. Together, we will advance EVZ’s first team and bring it closer to the top of the league in the coming years, explained Zug’s CEO Patrick Lengwiler regarding the appointment.
Marjamäki commented on his move as follows:
– I am very excited about this new challenge at EVZ. I see a lot of potential in the club. We have a lot of work ahead of us, and we will tackle it together.
Marjamäki’s move to Zug came as quite a surprise, as he had signed an extension with Kloten last autumn until 2027. During the season, there was no indication that the Finnish coach would be switching to a rival team.
