Last minute confirmation to the League – ex-Kärppä makes a comeback!
KooKoo has reacted to its goaltending situation before the start of the Liiga season. The Kouvola club has signed a two-week contract with Niclas Westerholm.
The 29-year-old, a product of Karhu-Kissat, joins KooKoo to cover for the illnesses in the goaltending department. Westerholm will be available to the team immediately and will join KooKoo’s roster on Monday, August 31.
Westerholm has played outside of Finland in recent years. Last season, his team was BK Mladá Boleslav, from where he was on loan at HC Motor České Budějovice. Additionally, the goaltender played for Södertälje SK.
In the last season, Westerholm played a total of 22 regular-season games and four playoff games for three different teams. His save percentage was 0.938.
– Our goaltending department currently has illnesses, so it’s great that we were able to bring Niclas in on short notice. He is an experienced goaltender who will provide us with the necessary help in this situation, KooKoo’s sports director Antti Tuomenoksa commented on the contract in a statement.
Westerholm will thus quickly join his new team just before the start of the Liiga season.
– It’s nice to get to play and help KooKoo, Westerholm commented on his contract with KooKoo.
