Kärpät has signed a two-year extension with Kasper Soini. The 23-year-old defender will continue in Oulu until spring 2029.

Kärpät’s sports director Kimmo Kapanen sees the mobile defender as an important part of the team’s future.

– Kasper is an important piece for us. Thanks to his strong skating, he can defend effectively in every area of the ice and support attacks. He is a young and still developing player with a lot of potential to take on an even bigger role in the team, Kapanen says in Kärpät’s press release.

Soini moved to Oulu for the 2025–2026 season. In his first season with Kärpät, he played 25 regular season games with stats of 2+2=4. In the current season, the defender has collected two assists in 13 games.

According to the defender, the decision to continue in the predator jersey came easily.

– When this opportunity came up, the decision was quite easy for me. I have really enjoyed my time here and wanted to continue with Kärpät. The feeling about the extension is really good, Soini rejoices.

A product of Grankulla IFK, he made his Liiga debut with Jukurit in the fall of 2023 and managed to play 70 regular season games with the Mikkeli club before moving to Kärpät.
