KalPa’s championship team hero: new club confirmed!
The Swedish defender Filip Westerlund, 27, who has represented KalPa for the last three seasons, has found a new team. He is moving to Rytiri Kladno in the Czech top league.
– We are pleased to welcome Filip Westerlund. He is a defender who can play reliably in the defensive zone and also provide quality support for the attack. We believe he will become an important member of our team next season, commented Kladno’s sports director Tomas Plekanec in the club’s announcement.
Westerlund scored a record 5+24=29 points in 59 regular season games for KalPa this past season, along with 2+0 in 11 playoff games. Westerlund won the Finnish championship with KalPa a year ago, when he scored the championship-winning goal for the club.
Before moving to KalPa, Westerlund played for Ilves during the spring season of 2023. In the league, Westerlund has played a total of 197 regular season games (27+48=75) and 53 playoff games (5+8=13).
Westerlund played in his home country’s leagues before arriving in the league. He played in both the SHL and Allsvenskan.
