The lion pack known from the World Championships moves to the SM-liiga
Oulu Kärpät strengthens with defender Rasmus Rissanen.
Rissanen moves to the SM-liiga from Sweden, where he has played for the last eight seasons. The last two he spent in Linköping and the previous six in Örebro.
The now 34-year-old defenseman moves to Kärpät on a two-year contract. This is not a return to the Liiga, as Rissanen has yet to play any top-tier games in Finland.
The defender left KalPa’s juniors for the WHL in North America for the 2009–10 season and has played NHL, AHL, and KHL hockey in addition to the Swedish league.
Known as a defensive defenseman, Rissanen is a familiar face in the Finnish national team, having represented the Lions in the last two World Championships.
Rissanen was also part of the Lions’ training camp for the World Championships this spring, but he had to sit out due to injury.
