Jymysiirto! Leo Komarov returns to the League
Kiekko-Espoo has strengthened its team with Leo Komarov. The veteran forward’s contract is said to cover the remainder of the season.
The 38-year-old world champion and Olympic gold medalist has been without a team this season, but appeared in December at the Spengler Cup with HC Davos, playing in five games.
– It’s great to get back to work! I’ve been training very hard all season to be ready to play when the right opportunity comes up. During the Christmas break, I got to play in the Spengler Cup, so I have some game rhythm as well. Now I can finally roll up my sleeves and get to work,” Komarov commented in the club’s announcement.
Kiekko-Espoo’s sports director Kim Hirschovits states that Komarov’s arrival strengthens the team for the spring games.
– We have been monitoring the team’s situation all the time, and at the same time, we have been considering how to strengthen our group for the spring within the possibilities. We have been in contact with ‘Leksan’ since the summer, and both parties have been aware of each other’s situations.
Komarov has played in his career in Liiga, SHL, KHL, and NHL, where he accumulated 491 games with the Toronto Maple Leafs and New York Islanders. In Liiga, he has previously represented Ässät, Pelicans, and HIFK.
