Jukurit legend leaves – “Left a lasting mark”
Mikkeli’s Jukurit long-time captain Jesper Piitulainen will leave the club after the current season.
Jukurit announced on Monday in a statement that the 34-year-old forward will play his last game for the Mikkeli club on Saturday when Jukurit faces KooKoo.
Piitulainen first represented Jukurit in the Mestis league during the 2011-12 season and has been part of the club’s Liiga journey that began in 2016. This season marks Piitulainen’s 11th with Jukurit.
– Piitulainen has been a significant part of the club’s story and has left a strong lasting mark on the Mikkeli hockey community, the club’s website praises.
In the last two seasons, the experienced forward has served as the captain of Jukurit.
This season, Piitulainen has been in good form. He has scored 32 points with 12 goals and 10 assists in 55 games and is just one point away from his own single-season points record.
In the Liiga, Piitulainen has also represented SaiPa and Lukko in addition to Jukurit. The forward from Savonlinna has played a total of 707 regular-season games during his 14 seasons in the Liiga, with a total of 127 goals and 178 assists for 305 points.
