Juhamatti Aaltonen criticized the appeal of the Liiga club on MTV: “I don’t believe we can get any real game-changer there.”
The KooKoo league season has started in a historic way. The Kouvola team has lost all ten of its first matches and is tying the league record for the most consecutive losses at the start of the season.
The team’s difficult situation has sparked intense discussion on MTV Sports League Week. Juhamatti Aaltonen believes that changes should start with a coaching change, as acquiring new players seems challenging.
However, Aaltonen believes that head coach Jouko Myrrä will still be behind the bench on Friday against Jukurit. The situation, however, could change as soon as next week.
– Yes, I believe so, but next week they will have to think very carefully at KooKoo’s office if they don’t get any points over the weekend. Then it might be that there won’t be a coach next week, Aaltonen says.
According to Aaltonen’s assessment, changes might come too late. He mentions that even if KooKoo averages two points per game in the next ten matches, the team would still be at the bottom of the league table.
On the player market, KooKoo’s position is not attractive in Aaltonen’s opinion. The unclear coaching situation and high performance pressure make it difficult to get reinforcements. According to him, the club cannot compete financially with other teams either.
– A player would rather move towards the top of the league if a role is available. I could be wrong, but I don’t believe we will get any real game-changer there, Juhamatti Aaltonen says.
According to MTV Sports, KooKoo has been actively monitoring the player market.
Karri Kivi also considers changes necessary. He describes the team’s play as exceptionally chaotic.
– It is clear that something has to change. I have not seen such a knot in my career, which started in the 80s. Nothing works. In special situations, last in goals scored and conceded. The game is so messy that it can be distressing to watch at times, as the players don’t know where to go, Kivi laments.
KooKoo will play a CHL match in Klagenfurt, Austria, early in the week. Over the weekend, the team will face Jukurit at home and HPK away in the league.
