Jori Lehterä’s retirement news surprised HIFK – now Olli Jokinen speaks
HIFK’s center star Jori Lehtera, 38, announced his decision to retire on Saturday, which came as a surprise to the team’s head coach Olli Jokinen.
Jokinen commented on Lehtera’s retirement decision after the press conference following the 2-3 overtime loss against Lukko on Saturday.
– Nothing has happened. That came as much of a surprise to us as it did to you, Jokinen stated.
Lehtera, who has played over 1000 professional games in Liiga, NHL, and KHL, won silver at the World Championships and bronze at the Olympics with the Lions. The skilled forward recorded 0+1 points in four Liiga games at the start of the season.
Lehtera’s retirement was first reported by Urheilucast.
