Mikkelin Jukurit announces that they have exercised the option in head coach Jonne Virtanen‘s contract for the 2026-27 season.

– It was a really easy decision to continue with Jonne. He has led the coaching team well and sold his ideas to the players. We work hard in our daily routine, and that has also been reflected on the ice, Jukurit’s sports director Mikko Hakkarainen commented in the club’s announcement.

Virtanen has done a good job at the helm of Jukurit this fall. The team from Mikkeli operates with the smallest player budget in the league, but they are currently sitting in 8th place in the standings.

– It was the goal for the club to exercise the option. I have enjoyed it a lot and I want to continuously bring my own touch more and more. I am grateful to Jukurit for this opportunity to do this coaching job that I have a strong passion for, Jonne Virtanen commented.

– The operations and daily life have been structured in such a way that the players have been able to take steps forward. It should be remembered that the players are the ones doing the work in daily life. The coach’s job is to provide all the tools to take those developmental steps.
