Jokerit strengthens with a familiar forward from the NHL!
Helsinki Jokerit has acquired a notable reinforcement for their offense. Jokerit has signed a three-season contract with Markus Hännikäinen, 33.
– With Markus, we are bringing a true Joker back to the team, as he has played in the organization for 17 seasons. He knows the club’s history and can pass this knowledge on to new players while also helping to create a new culture, commented Jokerit’s sports director Olli-Pekka Yrjänheikki in the club’s press release.
– It is hard to find a more suitable player for Jokerit’s return to the Liiga. He is a natural leader who will show the way both on and off the ice. Through his experience and immense work ethic, he brings leadership and an example for daily activities to the team.
This season, Hännikäinen played in the Czech top league for HC Litvínov. In 43 games, he recorded 7+11=18 points.
In his career, Hännikäinen has played 91 games in the NHL with the Columbus Blue Jackets. In those, he accumulated 8+7=15 points.
Hännikäinen was last seen with Jokerit in the KHL during the 2021-22 season. The winger scored 5+11=16 points in 44 games that season.
