Jokerit forward was hit hard – now a suspension has been issued!
The league’s disciplinary delegation has imposed a two-game suspension on HPK defender Garrett Pyke for a knee check.
The incident that led to the suspension occurred in the first period of Tuesday’s Jokerit–HPK game. Pyke checked Jokerit’s Bruno Kalliota with his knee and received a match penalty for the action.
The league’s disciplinary delegation determined that Pyke had thrust his right knee forcefully forward during the check. According to the discipline committee, the responsibility for executing the check in accordance with the rules lay with Pyke.
The situation happened quickly, but the disciplinary delegation stated that Pyke could have avoided pushing his knee towards Kalliota. He was deemed to have recklessly endangered his opponent.
The suspension will keep Pyke out of both of HPK’s home games this weekend. The team will face JYP on Friday and Kärpät on Saturday.
