Los Angeles Kings’ Finnish forward Joel Armia scored a shorthanded goal in the early hours of Tuesday morning Finnish time against the Colorado Avalanche. However, Colorado ultimately won the game 5-2.

Armia skated the puck through the entire rink and shot to reduce the deficit to 2-3 for the Kings in the final period. This was already Armia’s fourth shorthanded goal of the season, and with it, he rose to the top of the NHL’s shorthanded goal leaderboard for this season. Armia also leads in shorthanded points with five.

In his NHL career, Armia has now scored 21 shorthanded goals. He has tied for third place among active players in the number of shorthanded goals scored, alongside Jordan Staal and Blake Coleman. Only Brad Marchand (36) and Jean-Gabriel Pageau (23) have more shorthanded goals among active players.

This season, Armia has recorded a total of 16 points in 38 games with 9 goals and 7 assists.
