Ismo Lehkonen recently addressed the current situations of Liiga teams in the Kalju Corner podcast episode.

The early-season sensation team Ässät is still hanging on to second place in the league with equal points as the top team Tappara as they head into a new week. However, Lehkonen sees dark clouds looming over Ässät’s continued success.

– I think Ässät’s energy and tanks are slowly starting to run low.

– Quite a few teams have learned Ässät’s playing style pretty well. They can scout it, Lehkonen paints a grim picture towards Pori.

In contrast, the other early-season surprise team JYP, currently in third place, has been marked in “Ika’s” notebook in green.

– I’m not really worried about JYP. JYP is looking for certain new nuances. They have only taken two points from the last three games, but I’m not worried about JYP. They have good momentum, Lehkonen adds.

SaiPa also managed to break their four-game losing streak and grabbed a full nine-point haul last week.

– SaiPa scored three wins in a difficult stretch. I like that energy. It’s not our game. They have momentum and I believe SaiPa will fight their way into the top six, Lehkonen continues.

Lehkonen still lists Lukko and KalPa as mystery teams. However, regarding TPS, Lehkonen would send all junior-aged players directly to the A-juniors league in search of playing time.

A new Liiga week kicks off on Wednesday with a round of four matches.
