IS: Terrifying new information about the injured HIFK goalkeeper’s situation
The Swedish goalkeeper of HIFK Hugo Alnefelt was injured in a frightening manner during Friday’s Liiga round. The foot of Ilves forward Teemu Engberg hit Alnefelt in the head as he drove towards the goal, causing Alnefelt to fall to the ice. He was carried off the rink on a stretcher and taken to the hospital.
There is now an update on Alnefelt’s situation. HIFK’s communications manager Kim Salin told Ilta-Sanomat that Alnefelt avoided more serious injuries and was able to return home from the hospital as early as Saturday night.
– There is nothing major. We got through it with a scare. The situation looked more dramatic than what actually happened. Of course, such neck and back issues are taken very cautiously, Salin tells IS.
It is still uncertain whether Alnefelt will be available for HIFK right away this week.
– We will take one more set of images, and then we will know more precisely. But there was nothing major, Salin states.
Alnefelt has played 19 games in the Liiga this season with a save percentage of 88.4.
