Experienced winger Pekka Jormakka, 35, will not continue with Jyväskylä’s JYP. He confirms to Ilta-Sanomat in an interview that the club has not offered him a contract extension, and he is now looking for a new team.

Jormakka spent two seasons with JYP. Last season, he played 51 regular season games with stats of 11+14=25.

– I have been waiting a bit to see what JYP will do. It now seems that they do not want to offer me a deal, Jormakka tells IS.

The decision is a disappointment for the forward, as life in Jyväskylä had already become stable from a family perspective.

Next, he is turning his attention to a new team, primarily looking for options in Finland. Playing abroad is still a possibility, as his family situation allows for a move.

Jormakka states that he is ready to seize an opportunity quickly if a suitable offer comes along.

– If a good offer comes up from somewhere, I am ready to sign it quite quickly. I won’t be waiting around, he says.

Financial factors are not crucial for him at this stage of his career.

– Money is not the number one priority here.

The forward, who has had a long career in the league, has represented several clubs and also played for the Finnish national team. His last appearance with the Lions was in the 2024 World Championships.

Jormakka still believes he can play at a high level and showcase his skills in a new environment.

– Many might think that Jormakka is already out, but I have a feeling that I can still show everyone and have quite a good season.
