The Pelicans’ star goalie Patrik Bartosak has mysteriously been absent from the first two games of the SM-liiga season. On Tuesday, more information about his situation was finally revealed.

According to Pelicans’ sports director Jarkko Oikarinen-Holm, it is an injury.

– He is suffering from a minor injury. I am not a doctor, but he should be back soon, Oikarinen-Holm says to Ilta-Sanomat.

Bartosak, 33, played in one preseason game before the start of the regular season. The first two games of the season were defended by Jussi Olkinuora, who started his season with two wins and a 92.6 save percentage.

The Pelicans currently have no need to rush Bartosak’s return.

– We have three good goalies. We all understand that the season is long when playing 64 games. We want to ensure that all players are in top condition after injuries, says Oikarinen-Holm.

– There is no need to rush.

Bartosak’s absence has also sparked rumors about his situation. Sportti.com reported on the matter, referring to comments made by Esko Seppänen in Urheilucast suggesting that the Czech goalie might be on the move.

Bartosak dismissed the news on Tuesday in his Instagram story.

– Esko Seppänen desperately hunting for a clickbait headline.

The Pelicans’ season continues on Wednesday in Lahti against KalPa.
