IS: HIFK’s new player acquisition has been revealed!
Ilta-Sanomat reported on Wednesday that HIFK has found a new goalkeeper. Iltalehti has also received the same information.
According to IS, Swedish goalkeeper Hugo Alnefelt, 24, is close to signing with HIFK. Alnefelt was set to join the Liiga earlier in the fall, but at that time HIFK did not yet need a new goalkeeper.
Now, however, an urgent need has arisen, as both of HIFK’s goalkeepers Paavo Kohonen and Niko Hovinen are sidelined due to injuries.
Last season, Alnefelt played 28 games in the SHL for HV71 with a save percentage of 90.0. The Swedish goalkeeper was part of the Tampa Bay Lightning organization from 2021-24, mainly in the minors. The 191 cm tall goalie played one game in the NHL during the 2021-22 season.
Alnefelt has a contract with HV71 that runs until 2027, but both parties are willing to go their separate ways. HV71 is ready to terminate the contract or loan the goalkeeper out if the new team covers half of the player’s salary.
