IS: Aatos Koivu became the target of Tarmo Reunanen's harsh trick - Radical decision from TPS!

The captain of Turun Palloseura Tarmo Reunanen was suspended from the team’s lineup after an incident that occurred during practice, reports Ilta-Sanomat.

According to IS, the 27-year-old Reunanen tackled or otherwise checked 19-year-old forward Aatos Koivu with unnecessary force given the situation during practice. The incident led to Koivu’s injury.

After the incident, Reunanen was removed from the lineup. He has not played in the Liiga since the match against HPK on February 7.

Before his suspension, Reunanen had played 45 games for TPS, scoring 6+18=24 points.

TPS announced on Tuesday that Reunanen will move to the Swiss top league for the remainder of the season. HC Ajoie later announced Reunanen’s contract.

Reunanen did not comment further on the background of the transfer.

– This is of course disappointing and an unfortunate situation that not everything went according to plan – things don’t always go as hoped, and such situations sometimes arise in sports. However, I wish nothing but the best for the club and the team moving forward – there are great people in the locker room with whom it has been wonderful to work. I want to express my heartfelt thanks for all the support and encouragement, it has meant a lot to me, Reunanen stated.

TPS’s sports director Mika Suoraniemi also did not comment on the details related to the suspension in the announcement.

– After a good start to the season, Tare’s role has not materialized as hoped, and recently the situation has been challenging for both the player and the club. At this stage of the season, we see that this decision serves both parties best. It is great that Tare gets the opportunity to continue his season in a high-level European league, and we wish him good luck for the rest of the season, Suoraniemi says.
