Ilves’ former World Championship defender: career over!
Norwegian defender Stefan Espeland has decided to end his long playing career at the age of 37. His latest club, Storhamar, announced the news on X.
During his career, Espeland played in several top leagues in Europe. In addition to the Norwegian top league, he gained experience in Sweden’s SHL, Germany’s DEL league, and the Austrian league. In Finland, the defender was seen with Ilves during the 2017–2018 season. In the league, he played 19 games and recorded 2+2 points.
The Norwegian national team also became familiar over the years. Espeland represented his country in one Olympics and five World Championships.
For most of his career, the experienced defender played in his home country, where his number of games exceeded 500. In the last few years, he played for Storhamar and was involved in winning several championships. Even towards the end of his career, he was among the most effective defenders in the Norwegian league.
