Ilves captain found a new team – gets a familiar partner by their side
Ilves’ last season captain Joonas Nättinen continues his career in Germany. The forward will next join the Iserlohn Roosters, who play in the DEL. The German club announced the signing of Nättinen on Thursday.
The 35-year-old Nättinen’s role was small last season at Ilves. The forward recorded 12 points with 3 goals and 9 assists in 50 games.
However, a bigger role is likely available in Germany.
– Joonas has shown that he can take on responsibility at the highest level and handle pressure. He is expected to lead on the ice. His experience and versatility will bring a new dimension to our game, Iserlohn’s sports director Franz-David Fritzmeier commented in the club’s announcement on Thursday.
Nättinen, who has played one NHL game in his career, was part of the Olympic gold medal team for the Lions in 2022.
In Iserlohn, Nättinen will have as a teammate Peter Quenneville, who represented Ilves last season. The Canadian has been the German club’s most effective scorer in the early season with 6 points from 2 goals and 4 assists in eight games.
