IL: Kiekko-Espoo has signed a top contract!
Kiekko-Espoo has signed a major contract extension.
According to information received by Iltalehti, Kiekko-Espoo has recently made a one-year contract extension with goalkeeper Petteri Rimpinen.
Rimpinen, 19, is a 5th round draft pick (#152) of the Los Angeles Kings from last summer’s draft. IL reports that Rimpinen’s contract extension likely includes an NHL clause, but if he stays in Europe, Rimpinen will also represent Kiekko-Espoo next season.
Rimpinen played impressively in the Liiga last season, winning the Rookie of the Year award. He recorded 40 regular season games with a save percentage of 91.2 and five playoff games with a save percentage of 92.0. This season, he has played 14 games with a save percentage of 89.9.
At the turn of last year, Rimpinen helped the Young Lions to a World Championship silver. He played seven games in the tournament with a strong save percentage of 93.3. Rimpinen was also named the best goalkeeper of the tournament.
