IL: Jokerit and TPS are left licking their wounds – Finnish forward moving from North America to HIFK!
Finnish forward Eetu Liukas, 23, is returning to the Liiga from North America. Iltalehti reporter Timo Kunnari states in the Lätkäpodi podcast that Liukas is very likely to join HIFK for the next season.
According to Lätkäpodi, Liukas was on the radar of several Liiga teams. Jokerit and TPS were also pursuing Liukas, but according to Kunnari, these negotiations have ended without results.
Liukas is a 5th round draft pick (#157) of the New York Islanders from 2021. He is currently playing his third season with the team’s farm team, the Bridgeport Islanders. This season, Liukas has recorded 4 goals and 6 assists for 10 points in 24 AHL games.
Before leaving for North America, Liukas played in the Liiga for TPS and HPK. A physically playing Liukas has logged 128 regular season games in the Liiga with 23 goals and 15 assists for 38 points, as well as 17 playoff games with 4 points (0+4).
The last time Liukas played in the Liiga, he scored 14 goals for HPK in the 2022-23 season. During that season, he was also seen with the Leijonat.
