There have been many rumors lately surrounding HIFK’s sports director Janne Pesonen. Among other things, Urheilucast reported that HIFK had sidelined Pesonen from the club’s helm.

This, however, was not entirely true.

Iltalehti reported on Tuesday that Pesonen has been sidelined from HIFK’s activities due to medical leave.

– I had surgery a couple of weeks ago. It did come at an unfortunate time in many ways. There is plenty of work to be done. But first, I need to get well, and then we will work. The club has been very understanding in this matter, thanks for that, Pesonen revealed to Iltalehti.

The exact length of the medical leave is not yet known.

– It won’t take long now, recovery is progressing well. Hopefully, I can get back to work as soon as possible, that is the goal. But first, we need to ensure that everything is in order, Pesonen says.

During Pesonen’s absence, his duties will be handled by head coach Olli Jokinen, Mika Kortelainen, and CEO Ilkka Kortesluoma.

HIFK is currently in last place in the league. The Helsinki club will next face JYP at home on Wednesday.
