Jonne Virtanen has done an excellent job as the head coach of Mikkelin Jukurit. After 14 matches played, Jukurit is in third place in the league, despite being predicted to finish last in the season previews.

Jukurit has played simple yet effective hockey. At the same time, Virtanen’s value has been rising in the head coach market.

Iltalehti’s Lätkäpodissa Timo Kunnari mentions that Jukurit has made its decision regarding the next head coach.

– If the team plays in the A-series, Jonne Virtanen is very likely to be Jukurit’s head coach for the next season. I asked the club’s development director Mikko Hakkarainen about this on Thursday evening. The hockey director did not confirm it, but stated that discussions are ongoing and the head coach situation for Jukurit may be resolved within a few days, soon in any case, Kunnari commented.

The position in the A-series looks likely after the start of the season. The three last teams are currently KalPa, Jokerit, and KooKoo. Jukurit has 11 points more than KalPa, but also two more games played.
