HPK’s sensational goalkeeper Kim Saarinen confirms to MTV: North America calls
The most talked-about name of the league’s playoff spring, Kim Saarinen, is taking the next step in his career. The 19-year-old goaltending prospect from HPK confirms to MTV Sports that he will be flying to North America next.
Saarinen’s NHL rights are owned by the Seattle Kraken, who drafted the Finn in the third round in the summer of 2024. However, the goaltending prospect will first be sent to the farm team.
Saarinen is heading to the AHL’s Coachella Valley Firebirds, which serves as the Kraken’s affiliate.
– I will at least be going this week to get acquainted and train. I don’t know if they will put me in to play, Saarinen says.
A great season may also lead to an opportunity later in the spring with the national team’s World Championship training camp.
– If the call to the national team comes, I suppose it’s not out of the question that I would go there, Saarinen confirms.
The young player had an impressive season in the league. In the regular season, Saarinen had an average of 2.11 goals against in 38 games and a save percentage of 91.6, but the real superstar performance from the 193-centimeter goaltender was seen in the playoffs.
In the playoffs, Saarinen shone in nine games with top statistics of 1.68 and 94.4.
