HIFK's top acquisition has been slapped with a suspension!

The decision of the league’s disciplinary delegation regarding the fight seen in Saturday’s TPS-HIFK match is public. HIFK’s Eetu Liukas has received a one-match suspension, while TPS’s Axel Landen was not given a suspension.

Liukas and Landen threw their gloves in the final minutes of Saturday’s match and clashed. As a result, the players were sent to the showers. The situation later progressed to the disciplinary table.

The disciplinary delegation states that Liukas first tussles with Joel Määttä and Landen with Niko Huuhtanen. As the situations are calming down, Liukas attacks Landen, attempting to strike him. Liukas thus enters the situation as a third player and makes the first attempt to hit.

– The dispute following the whistle begins in a normal and spontaneous manner when the fouled Landen tries to confront the fouler Huuhtanen. With the referees in between and the situation already calming down, Liukas breaks away from his own dispute partner, attacks the situation between Huuhtanen and Landen, and attempts to forcefully strike Landen.

– The reprehensibility of Liukas’s actions is increased by his moving to another dispute pair and the attempted strike against Landen. Mitigating factors include that the strike did not connect and did not cause harm, as well as the absence of strikes in the subsequent wrestling. The disciplinary delegation believes that Liukas should be given a one-match suspension for his actions, as justified in the disciplinary decision.

The disciplinary delegation believes that the major penalties imposed on the players for their mutual altercation in the match are sufficient, so Landen will not receive a suspension.

Liukas will serve his suspension on Wednesday when HIFK faces Jukurit in Mikkeli.
